In This Week’s Newsletter… Why Q4 matters most. New Music & Food 4 Thought

If you know me, you already know I think a lot— most times too much 😭 Especially towards the end of the year. Lately, I've been thinking about how we’re in the 4th Quarter (Q4) of 2024, which got me excited.

You see, every year for the past 10 years, my biggest wins have happened during the 4th Quarter. I like to think of it like reaping what you’ve sown during the previous 9 months. A reward for staying down through the distractions, temptations, and challenges that try to get in the way of your New Year’s Resolutions. (If you still make those). If not, let’s just call them goals. (Like I do)

I’ve had a lot of Q4 wins over the last decade. But these 3 stand out the most:

• Hired as Editorial Intern at RESPECT. Magazine - kicked off my career in media

• Got myself a new truck for Christmas - it was totaled less than 6 months later 😅

• Launched my publishing company - Stay Low Stack Paper Publishing

During these moments, I was reminded of the power of persistence and keeping your eye on the prize. Because life gets to life-ing between January and December. But guess what?

None of these wins would’ve happened if I had quit or slowed down during the year.

Not only is Q4 where your wins start to come in, but it’s also a time to slow down, and enjoy the company of loved ones while reflecting on your year before setting your vision for the next year. We’ll get into that more in the next few weeks. But in the meantime, check out some new music from Dom Kennedy, Kehlani, and GloRilla below.

Proud Leimert Park and South Central rep, I’ve been following Dom’s career since his mixtape years (remember “25th Hour”). Plus we went to school together, so I can say he’s one solid dude and this is one solid project. Shout out Windsor Hills & Orville Wright! Listen HERE

Arguably the hottest female rapper right now, GloRilla just released her debut album. The lead-up to it has been amazing, from a marketing and musical perspective. I like how her music SLAPPs, but still stays smooth and easy on the ears. Plus, she talks hella sh*t 😂 Listen HERE

Kehlani: While We Wait 2

I know you’ve heard Jordan Adetunji’s song titled after Kehlani. If not click HERE. I also know you remember when RB was in a super slump years ago, around the early 2010s. It was around that time Kehlani and other upcoming artists decided to do something about it by being the change they wanted to see and put R&B back on the map. “While We Wait 2” continues that same sentiment.
